Overview

Yllashumina Log Cabin Hotel is a simple yet comfortable family-run hotel in the village of Akaslompolo, Lapland. It has been uniquely designed with rooms being spread across 16 individual cabins that surround the main reception and restaurant building all within minutes walking distance from each other. The hotel offers more spacious accommodation in its apartments and the newly built superior rooms which boast a two-way fire place that divides the living and sleeping areas. With all rooms and apartments being built from traditional log wood and other natural materials that have been locally sourced, this hotel creates a true Scandinavian, festive ambience.

• Hotel Facilities: 16 cabins/32 standard rooms (newly renovated), 4 apartments, 4 superior rooms (newly built), reception, restaurant, pub, ski shop and rental facilities, free WIFI in main building, standard and superior rooms.

• Standard Room Facilities: twin beds on ground floor, double sleeping area on mezzanine, shower, WC, TV, hair dryer, clothes dryer, sleeps up to 4.

• Apartment Facilities: bedroom with double bed, mezzanine with twin beds, sofa bed in living area, kitchenette, sauna, WC, TV, hair dryer, clothes dryer, sleeps up to 5. Some apartments have a fireplace, please request at time of booking.

• Superior Room Facilities: Double bed in sleeping area, sofa bed in living area, two-way fireplace, home entertainment centre including 42" TV, shower, WC, hair dryer, clothes dryer, sleeps up to 4.

This accommodation can also be booked January - April.

December Festive Itinerary

Day 1
0700-0800 flights usually depart for Lapland from London Gatwick. Flight times is approximately 3.5 hours. On arrival to Lapland transfer to Akaslompolo and Yllashumina Hotel with a stop en-route to collect thermal clothing (transfer time approximately 50 mins). Simple light lunch is served in Yllashumina hotel.
1730 Depart for a husky farm, home to over 100 huskies, where you will learn about the lives of the huskies and drive your own team of dogs through Lapland's wild countryside (5km)
1900-2000 Dinner in Yllashumina restaurant

Day 2
0800 - 1000 Breakfast in Yllashumina restaurant
1015 Transfer to Lapp Village (approximately 5 minutes by coach) for Arctic circle ceremony and snow fun activities - tandem skiing, snowshoe walking, kick sledging, tobogganing and children's snowmobiling. Make gingerbread cookies and Christmas decorations in Poro restaurant in Lapp Village. Lunch is served throughout the day. You will receive an invite from Santa with your scheduled time for a visit. Visit to Santa starts with snowmobile ride of approximately 20 minutes, followed by a reindeer ride. Santa's cabin is in the forest and secluded and each family is guaranteed private audience. Santa reads children's letters and each child receives soft toy as a gift from Santa.
1800-2000 Festive dinner at Yllashumina restaurant. Festive dinner is buffet style and is a combination of international and Finnish traditional dishes.

Day 3
0800 - 1000 Breakfast in Yllashumina restaurant.
Morning free. If you choose to go on optional excursions please check-out after breakfast and before your morning activity.
1130 Check-out (you leave your luggage in Yllasumina pub that in your absence remains locked)
1200-1300 Light lunch at hotel
1300 Snowmobile safari through Lapland's unspoilt wilderness. After receiving driving instruction and safety equipment and advise you set off for a wilderness snowmobile safari. Two adults share snowmobile and children (and those who do not wish to drive) are pulled in the sleigh behind the snowmobiles. Half way stop in the forest for warm drinks and snack. On return to hotel you leave thermal clothing in Yllashumina pub and collect your luggage ready for transfer to airport.
1730 Depart for Kittila airport, Lapland (short stop on route for souvenir shopping)
2000 (approx.) - Return flight to UK from Lapland
2130 (approx.) - Arrive UK

N.B.
1-4 December break itinerary is 3 nights and 4 days. The itinerary is the same as above but with activities are taken on 2 and 3 December due to flight schedules. This break is with scheduled flights with Finnair in economy class from either London Heathrow or Manchester to Kittilä via Helsinki.
15-18 December and 20-23 December break itineraries are 3 nights and 4 days. The itinerary is the same as above with Day 3 being free and activities on Day 3 moving to Day 4.
23-26 December break, the returning flight leaves Kittila at 1600.
