Over 4 unforgettable days, this immersive expedition takes you by dog sled through the remote and beautifully untouched landscapes of Swedish Lapland. After learning the basics of sled driving, you will meet your husky team and set out across frozen trails, travelling between secluded wilderness lodges and traditional homesteads surrounded by snow-covered forests and fells.

Each day brings a new stage of the journey, with time to build a connection with the dogs, help care for the team and experience the extraordinary rhythm of life on the trail. Evenings are spent in warm, welcoming surroundings, where you can relax in the sauna, enjoy freshly prepared meals inspired by the flavours of Lapland and share stories from the day before retiring to your private log cabin.

Far from towns and artificial light, the journey offers a true sense of stillness and escape. You may encounter wildlife along the way, and on clear nights the Northern Lights can illuminate the sky above your lodge. * Please note that we recommend this expedition for guests aged 16 and over who have a good level of fitness and are comfortable taking part in several consecutive days of active outdoor travel in winter conditions.

Itinerary

1
Day 1

Into the Wild

Your adventure begins with a welcome lunch, during which your guide will introduce the itinerary and explain the basics of driving a dog sled. You will then change into your expedition clothing before meeting the friendly Fjellborg Alaskan huskies who will accompany you on your journey.

In the afternoon, you set out across the snowy wilderness, travelling by dog sled through the wintry landscape towards Väkkärä Lodge. Here, you will settle into a cosy private log cabin for the night. The evening offers time to unwind in the sauna before enjoying a freshly prepared dinner.

Day 2

Deeper into the wilderness

After breakfast, you will help feed the dogs and prepare the teams before continuing deeper into the wilderness. Today’s destination is Sevuvouma Homestead, a welcoming retreat designed in the style of a traditional Lappish home.

Set at the foot of Vittangivaara fell, Sevuvouma has a wonderful sense of being the last outpost before the untouched wilderness begins. During your stay, you can relax in its exceptional sauna and enjoy beautifully prepared meals showcasing the flavours and ingredients of Lapland.

Day 3

Wildlife, wilderness and Arctic skies

Following a hearty breakfast, you begin the return journey to Väkkärä Lodge. As you travel through the remote winter landscape, keep watch for signs of local wildlife along the way.

On arrival at Väkkärä, you will enjoy dinner and spend a relaxed evening together in the spacious main lodge before retiring to your private log cabin. On clear nights, the Northern Lights may provide an unforgettable display across the Arctic sky.

Day 4

The final journey home

On the final morning of your expedition, you set out west towards the homestead and kennels at Poikkijärvi. After saying goodbye to your husky team, there will be time to change clothes and enjoy hot drinks and light refreshments.

Guests departing from Kiruna Airport that day will then be transferred in time for their return flight.
