Located at the very edge of Äkäslompolo village and about 100m from Äkäslompolo Lake the luxury cabin of Eriklinna is a great place to escape from the every day. The Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, Finland’s third largest national park, starts less than 1km from the cabin with its breath-taking scenery, it is the perfect setting for Arctic adventure and a magical, festive atmosphere. As the cabins are fully catered you don’t even need to leave your cabin after a day in the snow. Reindeer are often seen walking through the village and past hotels and shops.

Searching for perch with snowshoes

A short distance from Lodge 67̊N is Äkäslompolo lake where your will be able to drill holes in the ice and wait and see if there are any takers for the bait. With beautiful views of the lake, the fells and the village the trip is well worth taking even if you don’t catch anything.

Reindeer safari by Hannu

Twenty minutes away from Lodge 67̊N is Hyyverova, where Hannu the reindeer herder and his reindeer are waiting. When all the reindeer are harnessed, sit back and relax in your sleigh and head into the snow covered pine forest for a four kilometer long reindeer sleigh ride. After about half an hour to forty minutes you have a chance to feed the reindeer big portions of lichen and warm up with hot coffee and homemade berry juice in the Lappish teepee.

Hannu has lived with reindeer all his life and will be happy to answer any questions on the lives of the reindeer and the reindeer herders themselves.

Snowshoe trip to Ylläs

The ancient Finns roamed the forests on wooden skis fashioned from birch, nowadays the snowshoes are more advanced but you can still experience the same thrill as you head for the fells, following gullies carved by the glaciers of the last Ice Age. For about three kilometers you head up through the rugged scenery of the Ylläs-Pallas National Park. A leisurely pace allows you to observe the world around you.

Husky farm visit and sleigh safari

Visiting the same husky farm as on your arrival you can almost double the length of the safari with the 9km trail with your own team of dogs.  After the visit you have another chance to warm up in the Lappish tepee and ask any more questions that you may have about the dogs.

Cross country skiing school

The cross country skiing school is suitable for all ages and skill levels (even if you have never skied before) as long as you are old enough to walk. The Finns have a saying “if you can walk you can ski” and it is not uncommon to see small children skiing to school.

Art of Ice & Snow

1500 tons of snow and 300 tons of ice are used every year to create the unique Lainio Snow Village. Artists from around the world spend many hours crafting the ice blocks into fantastic sculptures. Located only 35km away from Äkäslompolo the Snow Village is about 30 minutes from Ylläshumina by bus. Enjoy a guided tour around the hotel, ice restaurant and bar. Before heading back to Äkäslompolo, enjoy a hot drink and a bun in the Lainio inn.
NB this option is not available for the 2 night break. The expected opening of the Snow Village this year is 12th December. We are at times able to secure early entry but please note that parts of the hotel may still be under construction.

Please note that participation in safaris for children between the ages of 6 months and 2 years is weather dependent and will be up to the discretion of the local guides who will access the safety of the activity at the time. Should the infant not be able to part-take in a safari one adult will need to stay behind with them. Infants can still take part in the Santa activity day and visit to Santa.
