Located at the very edge of Äkäslompolo village and about 100m from Äkäslompolo Lake the luxury cabin of Eriklinna is a great place to escape from the every day. The Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, Finland’s third largest national park, starts less than 1km from the cabin with its breathtaking scenery, it is the perfect setting for Arctic adventure and a magical, festive atmosphere. As the cabins are fully catered you don’t even need to leave your cabin after a day in the snow. Reindeer are often seen walking through the village and past hotels and shops.

Ice fishing, or as we say pilkki, is a popular hobby in Finland. This ice fishing trip heads to Lake Äkäslompolo, which locates in the heart of village. Once there, we put snowshoes on and search for suitable location for ice fishing. After we have drilled holes to the ice we sit back and see which brings the best catch, grubs or worms. During the trip we enjoy hot berry juice.

We drive by car about twenty minutes to meet reindeer, these adorable half-wild animals. After all the reindeer are harnessed, we sit down in sleighs and wrap ourselves in warm fur blankets. The three- kilometer ride allows us to experience the true wilderness of Lapland and magical tranquility of the forest.
After half an hour ride we enjoy homemade berry juice by an open fire in a Lappish tepee, kota, and hear
stories of reindeer and their annual cycle of life. You have also possibility take photos with your arctic
traveling companion.

The ancient Finns roamed the forests on wooden skis fashioned from birch, nowadays the snowshoes are more advanced but you can still experience the same thrill as you head for the fells, following gullies carved by the glaciers of the last Ice Age. For about three kilometers you head up through the rugged scenery of the Ylläs-Pallas National Park. A leisurely pace allows you to observe the world around you.

At our destination, the Ylläs Husky farm, the husky guide will introduce us to the hundred Alaskan and
Siberian huskies. When we are familiar with the customs and habits of the dogs, we take part in a 9
kilometer husky sleigh safari. Every adult participant can steer the sleigh. After the trip we drink coffee in
Lapp teepee with the husky farm guides, where they will tell us a lot more about the interesting life of a
musher.

We will start the tour by choosing the ski equipment. The teacher will first show the basic techniques of cross-country skiing and then we practice on a flat surface. When it is going on well enough we head for a short trip to the maintained skiing tracks.
